LETTER TO PARENTS FROM MRS. BAUTISTA
August 5, 2023 Dear Vista Grande Families, We are thrilled to welcome you back to our campus. This past summer, we have worked diligently to create a safe and engaging school environment for your child. From attending professional development classes, increasing outdoor learning spaces, and improving the facilities, we have maximized our resources to create a safe and nurturing campus. We will continue to follow guidance from the California Department of Public Health (CDPH) and the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). Currently, all schools must continue to require that masks be worn indoors in school. We will continue layered mitigation strategies such as screening testing, ventilation, handwashing, and respiratory etiquette, staying home when sick and getting tested, contact tracing in combination with quarantine and isolation, and cleaning and disinfection. Listed below is important information regarding our school. School Office Hours - Our office phone number is (619) 588-3170. Starting Monday August 9th, we will be open from 8:30-4:00 Monday through Friday. We will also have limited hours on Thursday, August 12th for staff collaboration. Backpacks - Students will need a backpack for school that can fit their Chromebook, a 12” x 9” standard folder, their daily snack, lunch bag, and labeled water bottle. Welcome To 5th Grade Dear Parents, Welcome to 5th grade Rm 25!! I would like to take this opportunity to introduce myself. My name is Annie Lupo and I am so excited to be your child’s 5th grade teacher and thrilled to meet each and every one of your children! I know this will be a wonderful year filled with amazing adventures and new learning. Please take the time to visit all the tabs on this website. There is a plethora of wonderful information from meeting the teacher to better understanding all the subject areas and curriculum in 5th grade. In the last year, education and its goals for your child has changed dramatically. Common Core Standards are what 5th grade curriculum is based upon. Students will be expected to be able to read more difficult text sooner, and discuss what they read at a more complex level. Also, assessments have been changed. Compared to current achievement tests, common core assessments will likely be more difficult. Ideally, instead of multiple choice tests, students will be analyzing and synthesizing information, writing essay responses, and answering in-depth questions to show how much they understand. What does this mean? In the classroom, we are exploring new curriculum to meet the Common Core Standards, using technology as a tool for academic achievement, meeting in small groups to meet the different needs of learners in our classroom and asking students to take risks and experiment with new ways to learn. What is my role in this scenario? My role is to provide your child with the necessary skills and practice to achieve “Expected Growth“ in all content areas. As well as provide your child with a well balanced educational experience. Those students that are experiencing difficulty may meet with me after school on Wednesday until 4pm to receive extra help. Of course, I can be available other times but please contact me first to set up a time so I can give your child my full attention. What is your role as a parent? PLEASE CHECK WITH YOUR CHILD AND GOOGLE CLASSROOM AND PLANNER NIGHTLY. By doing this, it will keep you informed of your child's homework performance and you can help communicate any changes necessary to help your child achieve success. Parents are the key to making homework a positive experience for their children. Therefore, I ask that you make homework a top priority at home. Please check your child’s homework and have them make corrections before they turn it in. Next, have your child do practice activities that I have provided on my website and programs on the Chrome Book to reinforce skills that are taught. Moreover, fifth graders MUST know their and multiplication and division facts "quick as a snap." You need to have your child practice these facts for 10 to 15 minutes a day. Make sure your child reads aloud to you at least once a week and have them read at least 30 minutes a day. Most importantly, communicate with me if your child does not understand any concepts that have been taught. Homework should not take more than and hour including their reading time. Somedays will take less time depending on whether or not your child uses their time wisely when given the chance to complete homework in class. What is your child’s responsibility? Your child must come to our classroom prepared to listen, follow directions and learn. If they do not understand a concept that I have taught, they MUST let me know. I will have small group interventions to help with math, reading, and writing concepts. I am truly blessed to be teaching your kiddos this year and I want to make sure that they are successful in all academic and social areas. E-mail or Bloomz me if you have any questions or concerns about your child. Again thank you from the bottom of my heart for all your support in and out of the classroom. I can't to meet all your sweet, beautiful kiddos! Sincerely, Annie Lupo Dear Parents, You are cordially invited to be a partner in your child’s education. Stay-Tuned: Ask your child what he or she is studying, and look at their Google classroom for all assignments. My website will be a wonderful resources to navigate through to get a better understanding of our 5th grade curriculum and classroom culture. Please take time to go through the drop down tabs. I will connect with you if I feel that your child is not progressing as expected so we can work together to help your child be successful. Ask Questions: If you have any concerns or are wonderings, please feel free to call or email (lupoa@cajonvalley.net) me or use BLOOMZ at any time. I welcome all concerns, ideas, and suggestions that affect your child in our classroom. If something is not working, I am more than willing to set up a time to meet and discuss the issue. I welcome all feedback! Chromebooks: Students will need to comfortable earphones or earbuds to use with their Chromebooks as the school year begins. I am implementing blended learning in our classroom to improve education and provide personalized learning for all students. The Chromebook is an important tool in my classroom. Students are learning Digital Citizenship and must take a test of 80% accuracy to teach and model how to use our chrome books responsibly and safely. Homework: You should expect that your child will have homework almost every day. They will be filling out a daily planner to stay organized and responsible for their learning. I will give your child ample time to finish their assignments in our class as to limit their homework time at home. I completely understand and acknowledge that each family situation is different. Throughout the year, I will have extended office hours for my students so I can provide one-to-one support. I am ALWAYS here for you and your child. Communication: Check my website for a weekly newsletters, updated information, kids’ educational links, parent educational links, assignments and weekly homework papers All newsletters and information will be online or sent by e-mail. The BLOOMZ app is most important way to communicate with me this year. I will use this communication platform to send brief reminders each week. It's a very casual and informal way to keep connected with me and be "in the know" with activities, homework, tests, etc that will be happening each week. Please make sure you get connected asap. Download the app and enter the code Y234KG and you will be accepted immediately into the class. Classroom Arrival Time: Being on time for school is imperative and it's important for your child to develop habits of arriving on time so they do not miss out on learning opportunities. Please feel free to let me know if your child will be late for school or if they will be absent for an extended period of time. I will be more than happy to send work to the office for pick-up if necessary. Celebrate your child's success, no matter how small it may seem. This will keep your child enthusiastic about learning and proud of their work! Your child will receive emails, special surprises recognition throughout the year. I want ALL students to feel loved and cared for. My goal is making connections and relationships with my students in a positive, nurturing learning environment. Throughout the year, it is important to have a strong parent-teacher relationship. Again, if at any time you have any questions or concerns please contact me.
